I've been doing some experimenting over the past few days with the Slot.it SCP-1 controller. Since I've owned it I got comfortable with some particular settings, notably using the LIN switch on the back, with sort of sets it up as a standard controller, albeit with modifications. But otherwise, it's the safe option to control your speeds and save your cars.
Of course, there are other options. The CRV switch allows you to set up how your trigger responds through the power band. You can set it to have a gentler curve to max speed, or something more like a hair-trigger, as well as everything in between. This gives a lot of options, and you can pretty much tailor your controller for your car and whatever layout track it might be on.
As I was testing cars with various controller settings I noticed that each car like a setting that was different from the other two. I took note of each setting, and will start from scratch tomorrow before racing and see if the settings I tweak the cars to match what I wrote down tonight. The Alfa really responded well to the CRV setting, floating through curves with a nice flexible trigger span, ending with an extreme punch of power. Its light weight allows it to respond to harder braking as well.
The Fords both prefer the LIN setting, as they fly right off the track with hard bursts of power. I'm still convinced they'd eat up a bit track. though. They'd probably end up leaving the Alfa in the dust.
I think it's time to start looking for some extra track pieces. I'll be moving soon, and I'll need at least a dozen more straight pieces as well as a variety of curves for my upcoming track. But until then, I'll get stuff piece-by-piece.
Next race Monday. Until then, more experimentation.
